Hanna dreams of exploring her sexuality far beyond what is possible in her small Swedish hometown. At a party in San Francisco, she meets two experienced sex workers: Chloe, a professional dominatrix, and Cyd, a shameless escort who sells sex to gay men. Hanna is fascinated – and stays.
But this new world is difficult to reconcile with the values of her loved ones in Sweden. Hanna’s girlfriend doesn’t really understand her decisions, and coming out to her parents as a sex worker seems impossible to Hanna. “Labor” poses questions that concern us all: Which fantasies do we live out and which do we not? And how many compromises are we willing to make for a relationship?
